DESCRIPTION
For the past five years, THE HUMAN MARKET, a team of scientists and young females, have met weekly to rigorously tackle the largest social, economic and environmental crisis we face.

Together, hundreds of young females and several scientists from physics, computer science, psychology and biology from around the nation have challenged the foundational beliefs in scientific practices, design practices, and cultural and social artifacts.

Although we had originally thought that the problem was lack of females involved in the outer dimensions of innovation and thought leadership, we eventually realized that at the heart of the problem, it was not just a “missing girl,”  but an entire way of thinking that was incomplete – our thinking was missing a feminine human element, a blind spot, where everything man-made, from education to banking to advertising, became a manufactured need and was not the true need of the people.

The design flaw in our design thinking is so fatal and so incomplete that it challenges our sanity, damaging the people and creating a cycle of unmet needs in the market. THE HUMAN MARKET team has been exploring this missing dimensions of design: the feminine human dimension. The ground-breaking discoveries we have made will revolutionize the market and be of historical significance.

The Missing Girl in Science | Illustration Internship for Females

THE HUMAN MARKET
NEW YORK, New York
JOB LEVEL: Intern
FIELD: Graphic Design
JOB FUNCTIONS: Creative Direction, Design Education, Design for Environmental Impact, Design for Social Impact, Illustration, Publishing

Description

Are you a girl who didn’t excel in science and felt bad about it? Do you love to draw? Want to make a difference in rebranding science for girls just like you?
Or are you a girl who loves science and design? Do you want to help revolutionize the way we understand it and make it more accessible to other girls?

Well, here’s your chance!

(Today this is what girls hear)

You girls, you little bubbleheads, you just cannot keep up with the boys.

B in calculus? What is wrong with YOU? (What IS wrong with me?)

SMART kids excel in organic chemistry. (I must be dumb.)

He finished the problem set, why don’t you UNDERSTAND it? (I’m sorry!)

You better take a higher level math if you want to get into a GOOD school. (I’m going no where.)

If you want to SUCCEED, you better…

Society is concerned about getting more girls involved in science. There is a serious gender imbalance in the field, but what does this all mean? Why are girls bring pushed into science? Do we believe that scientists have more fulfilling lives? Or is it for some sort of unwarranted validation imposed by society? If a girl manages to become a scientist, does this prove that she is as smart as boys?

Speaking as a girl, I didn’t feel incompetent until I heard everyone talking about girls “falling behind.” Historically, efforts to “help” girls pursue science have tried to change girls’ behaviors. Society taught us that we need to change our way of thinking to excel in typically male-dominated fields. Although the efforts were well-intended, it made me feel bad, as if I was lacking, had failed in some way, or was just not smart enough.

However, no one thought to question if girls’ reactions were the organic ones. What if the real problem was science? What if science as we understand it lacks a critical dimension that comes with advanced rigorous thinking? Girls inherently have silent perceptual, intellectual, conceptual, and analytical skills. These skills are vital to the very advancement of science itself, yet they are not being utilized.

At THE HUMAN MARKET , we believe it was not girls that need science (to advance girls’ status), but it is science that needs girls (to advance its accuracy). It is science that needs to change, not girls.

Help us illustrate our new Human Dimension science, which has been pioneered by hundreds of girls of various ages and nationalities.

Why care? Because it will help us, as a society, rethink science as we understand it. Re-envisioning it. Rebranding it. Re-illustrating it. For girls, by girls. Girls like you.

Specific Skills

Looking for female illustrators and designer to work on a special social summer project aimed at creating a more inclusionary science, one which is as feminine as it is masculine.

Illustration Project: A MODERN, ADVANCED SCIENCE FOR GIRLS.

Illustrators will be responsible for creating pamphlets, posters, booklets and album covers to help launch our Human Dimension science.

REQUIREMENTS
– Can intern 8-12 hours a week
– Skilled with hand-drawn or digital designs
– Creative/Quirky/Personable

Learning opportunities

creating artwork that has universal appeal, design innovation, social entrepreneurship

The human market is an initiative led by a few pioneering scientists, designers, and inventors who have worked tirelessly to understand why we are not advancing and why despite having more stuff than ever, humans are not happy…

The good news is there is a way to radically reinvent this planet, from education to basic products, reverse damage, and do good.

The only catch is it will require a radical shift in how we learn about models, and innovative for human beings. It is an entirely new paradigm of innovation we call the HUMAN DIMENSION SCIENCE. We have invented it, tested it, and proven that doing good will bring growth, not just for businesses but for the planet and people as well.

Help us launch this initiative, and share this new way to design with the rest of humanity.
